The Beauty and Brains behind Baja East are Headed to At Ease on Sunset, Come Meet Them!
“I’ve been to at Ease on Sunset, and we love it. The store has the perfect vibe for our brand. It’s a great space with a beach mentality.” –Baja East
Modern technology turns me on. How incredible is it to be able to conduct an interview via FaceTime, from Paris straight to Miami? So, why Paris-Miami? I have two words for you: Baja East.

Scott Studenberg and John Targon are the designers – creative director’s behind this US manufactured brand. They subsequently also happen to be the hottest designers of the moment (literally), and I fully understand why after a twenty-minute chat with the duo.
In Paris for Fashion Week as they present their Pre-Fall 2015 collection, they tell me “we didn’t do Milan Fashion Week. Paris is enough!”
Here are some facts: Baja East has only been in existence for one year. The duo are in their early 30’s. They did not go to fashion school. They worked at Lanvin and Celine and since launching Baja, have been featured in Vogue, WWD, Style.com and beyond. How’s that for a good start?
They tell me that after working for French and Italian Fashion Houses, they decided to “manufacture in America because of quality control. We are LA – NY based and keeping it in the USA was important to us. There is no reason to produce elsewhere. We worked for these French and Italian brands, but we are two American guys. We’ve grown up in New York and the idea of producing comparable goods here, made the most sense. We are keeping America luxe.”
Even though they order their cashmeres from Italy, at the same factories as Bruno Cuccinelli, their knitwear is still made in LA. “We want to do as much in USA but the technical fabrics are sourced in France and Italy as well. We also source from the same factories as Chanel and Saint Laurent.”
Even though their one line of Baja East is for both men and women, “we don’t like the word androgynous, it’s either more masculine of more femme. It’s about how you wear it, the feel, etc. However, we do sell more women’s things.”
With that being said, when Racked Miami interviewed me as a Miami Style Influencer, they asked me about women’s style and my favorite shop. At Ease on Sunset was my easy answer. The perfect selection of clean, chic clothes, it is one of those boutiques where I could pull my wardrobe for life and be happy. It is all about lifestyle and luxury. So, on Saturday, January 31st, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., head down to at Ease on Sunset, where you can meet Scott and John and preview their Pre-Fall collection, while you shop my favorite boutique.
Oh, and do you wonder what’s on their agenda for the up and coming years? “A flagship is our dream…. LA would be our first.”
